Hi everyone. My name is Kundai, Edward, Muradzikwa. I was born in the capital city of Zimbabwe, Harare in Avenues Hospital. I have always believed that the day of my birth is no ordinary day as I am a twin. I was fortunate to be born on the 19th of May in 1987, 15 minutes before my other half, Tinotenda Muradzikwa. That’s right we are fraternal twins but we love each other just the same.
Growing up in Zimbabwe was the most enjoyable part of my life. Loads of interesting things to reminisce about. In comparison to my current dwelling, which is Perth, Australia, Zimbabwe presented me with a lot of challenging aspects of life and plenty of obstacles to overcome as our economy was struggling and currently still is, it was always tough times but we tried our best to make the most of it.
As a child I have always been active, might some argue the fact that I was or still am more than just active but perhaps, hyper active. I love sports and my childhood proves this. In primary school I played a variety of sports, such as Hockey, Soccer, Swimming, Tennis, Athletics and a bit of Volley Ball. I always made it my goal to be as competitive as possible and in my final year of primary school my activeness paid off. In that year I was made Tennis, Soccer, Swimming, Athletics and House Captain all at once, which I personally felt was a great achievement. At the end of that year I received more than 10 trophies for my sporting and academic achievements that year, but to my surprise I still longed for more.
High school was the error of my potential. I continued to remain as active in sports as possible but high school doesn’t allow you to excel in every sport possible but to become professional in a few. Bored of the same old sports I was used to, my high school, St John’s College, Harare, introduced me to 2 new sports which were Rugby and Basketball. I was in love instantly. As my character was already used to, I worked hard t achieve results and within 2 and a half years I was already playing for the senior teams in the First Team for both sports which was what I felt quite the achievement. If that wasn’t enough, I proceeded to make the National sides for both for the next three years and this I felt was my peak.
Age and the pressures of university life have ended my desire for the sporting world, for now, but deep inside I feel that there will be a come-back soon, but for now I enjoy watching the pro’s do their thing on the big screen or live in the stadium.
